Lilo & Stitch - Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten
In space, Dr. Jumba, a mad scientist, creates Experiment 626. The creature proves so destructive that the federation decides to exile him. Before they can do so, Experiment 626 escapes, steals a spaceship, and crash-lands in Hawaii. The federation then dispatches Dr. Jumba and Agent Pleakley to capture him.
In Hawaii, a young girl named Lilo lives with her older sister Nani following their parents' death. They are under scrutiny from social worker Mrs. Kekoa, who believes Nani isn't capable of raising Lilo properly. Their house is messy, and Nani struggles to pay the bills. While they try to make a good impression on Mrs. Kekoa, Lilo has trouble making friends at school due to her misbehavior. Though Nani is the only person who cares for her, Lilo yearns for more attention from her sister and hopes to find a friend who truly understands her.
Dr. Jumba and Agent Pleakley disguise themselves as humans to catch Experiment 626, who has disguised himself as a dog at the adoption center where Lilo adopts him. Lilo names him Stitch. Having been created to be destructive, it's no surprise that Stitch becomes a troublemaker in their home. His disruptive behavior with Lilo eventually leads to Nani losing her job. When Nani decides to get rid of him, Lilo teaches Stitch about "ohana" (family). This marks a turning point where he begins to fit into their family and causes less trouble. Nani eventually finds a new job teaching surfing, a skill she had previously mastered. While surfing with Nani and David, Lilo and Stitch nearly drown. Though Lilo recovers in the hospital, Nani cannot afford the medical bills. Mrs. Kekoa informs Nani that the government will cover the expenses if she relinquishes guardianship of Lilo. With a heavy heart, Nani agrees.
When Stitch runs away, Lilo searches for him. Dr. Jumba suddenly appears and captures Stitch, revealing that Stitch has only been using Lilo for protection. This revelation causes Stitch to surrender himself. In the spaceship, when Dr. Jumba prepares to erase Stitch's memory, Lilo secretly sneaks in and rescues Stitch. However, during their escape, the ship plunges into the sea. Nani and David save Lilo. As soon as she regains consciousness, Lilo begs them to rescue Stitch. David manages to pull Stitch from the water, but he remains unconscious until David jumpstarts him.
The Grand Councilwoman of the Federation arrives on Earth to take Stitch back. Upon learning that Stitch has become a true friend to Lilo, she decides to let him remain on Earth, allowing them to stay together. Lilo must now live with David and Tūtū, who becomes her legal guardian instead of Nani. This change enables Nani to accept a full scholarship to study in California, an opportunity she has previously declined because she couldn't leave Lilo. Though they live apart, Nani visits Lilo frequently, using Jumba's portal gun to teleport between her dorm room and Lilo's room.
Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. When times are tough, family still stands by your side.
