How to Train Your Dragon - We don't have to kill them

Vikings have lived in their village for generations. Dragons regularly attack them and steal their livestock, giving the Vikings a clear purpose to fight back. Stoick, the tribe's leader, has a son named Hiccup who, despite being physically weak, compensates by building clever tools. Hiccup dreams of becoming a dragon slayer like his father. During one dragon attack, Hiccup manages to shoot down a rare dragon species called a Night Fury—a creature no one has ever seen before. Determined to prove himself, Hiccup tracks the injured dragon with plans to kill it. However, when he finds the helpless Night Fury, he cannot bring himself to harm it and walks away.

Rumors circulate about a dragon nest housing all dragons. The Vikings believe that destroying this nest would end the dragon attacks permanently. To accomplish this, Hiccup's father gathers his best warriors to locate and destroy the nest. Meanwhile, Hiccup enrolls in the academy to learn dragon-slaying alongside other young Vikings. Astrid, whom Hiccup secretly admires, is the top student in the class. When Hiccup returns to the forest, he finds the Night Fury still stranded there. He names the dragon "Toothless" and begins helping him recover. After realizing that Toothless's tail was damaged by his shot Hiccup crafts a mechanical fin with an attached saddle, allowing them to fly together. Through spending more time with Toothless, Hiccup gains valuable knowledge about dragons' vulnerabilities.

Stoick returns with his fleet, injured and unsuccessful in finding the dragon nest. He's surprised to hear that Hiccup excels at the academy, as his son never seemed like dragon-slayer material before. In reality, Hiccup hasn't become braver—he simply knows dragons well enough now to tame them easily. During the final test, Hiccup outperforms his classmates and is named top of his class, earning the "honor" of killing a dragon. Unwilling to kill any dragon, Hiccup decides to flee with Toothless but is discovered by Astrid. To prove that dragons aren't always a threat to Vikings, Hiccup invites Astrid to fly with Toothless. During their flight, Toothless brings them to the nest where they discover a massive dragon called the Red Death. They realize the other dragons attack their village merely to survive. Astrid wants to inform the village about finding the nest, but Hiccup refuses, fearing they'll discover Toothless's existence.

In the duel, Hiccup has to face Monstrous Nightmare dragon. Hiccup uses his trick again to tame the dragon and tells others that dragons can be friendly. Stoick doesn’t like it, so he engages the dragon. Toothless senses that Hiccup is in danger, so he flies to the arena to save Hiccup. Unfortunately, Toothless gets captured as it’s a rare species vikings have never seen before. Learning that Toothless knows where the nest is, Stoick forces him to navigate for the fleet. Hiccup know the fleet can’t beat the Red Death easily, so he asks his classmates to tame the captured dragons to fight together.

The Vikings realize they cannot defeat the Red Death alone. Hiccup leads his fleet of classmates riding their newly tamed dragons to the battle. While someone distracts the massive beast, Hiccup rescues Toothless from his cage. Working together in perfect coordination, they manage to make the Red Death crash into itself, though its tail strikes Hiccup during the final moments. Despite this injury, they succeed in defeating the monstrous dragon.

Hiccup survives the battle but loses his leg in the process. After the war, the Vikings' lifestyle changes dramatically. They now live peacefully alongside dragons, proving that even longtime enemies can learn to coexist harmoniously.

Hiccup may not fit into Viking society due to his lack of physical strength. However, his uniqueness is his greatest asset. He possesses compassion and willingly challenges beliefs Vikings have held for generations. He adapts creatively, using his crafting skills to build tools that help Toothless fly again. Being different isn't always wrong—following the crowd is easy, but few have the courage to defy convention.
